Updated: May 26

Today, I’m thrilled to welcome Bitsy Kemper. Known in the children’s book industry for her generosity in sharing her list of Publishers Accepting Children’s Books – No Agent Needed, and The 31-Day Author Platform Challenge, Bitsy is a wife, mother of three kids, and author of 23 children’s books – and the delightful re-released Mommy & Me Micro-Moments: Nurturing Faith, Sharing Laughs. Whew! You might say Bitsy lives every moment to the max.

Welcome, Bitsy!

Sue: Please tell us the story behind the writing of Mommy & Me Micro-Moments. Where did you get the spark for this book idea?

Bitsy: When I was watching my neighbor interact with her young kids, I thought, “They’ll never remember this moment. There’s nothing special about it…yet it IS special,” and it got me thinking about how overwhelmed I was when mine were that little, and how I never made time for ordinary moments like that because I was so busy and felt I needed to keep moving. I don’t remember ordinary moments like that, not any of them, not even a micro-moment. And it made me sad. I was wondering how I could warn her, and other moms about the importance of capturing these moments—without sounding judgy or weird or creepy, lol. I thought, what if I write a book about the importance of micro-moments? What if I made it part journal, part devotional, part interactive fun, so they’d want to read and share it every day? The book literally poured out of me from there.

I wish I had it when my teens were young. I mean, we all have intentions of sitting down with our child to play or read bedtime stories, but unless we block out that time in ink, real life has a way of bulldozing our good intentions. It happens to all of us.

But it’s also the book I wish I had when I was young, as I lost my mom (and all the memories of our time spent together) when I was two. The youngest of five kids born within five years (my siblings were 4, 5, 6, and 7), I don’t remember one thing about her or our time together. With her illness, I honestly don’t know if we had specific “mommy and me” time. Amid all the chaos, nothing was documented. What I wouldn’t do to have had a book that dedicated five minutes a day with her, and a time capsule and keepsake like this to look back on.

Sue: You write about various subjects, for a wide age range. Although this devotional is for the Christian market, most of your books are nonfiction for the general market. How do you integrate your faith into your books?

Bitsy: I have a confession. My secret spy goal is to help make faith mainstream—as in, not something to be ashamed of talking about or afraid to be proud of. I sneak faith into almost everything I do. Sometimes, it’s casually dropping it in conversation… Instead of “I can be there at noon,” it’s “I can be there at noon, right after church.” Instead of “I’m free on Tues after 10:30,” it’s “Tuesdays I’m open all day except for morning Bible study that ends at 10:30.” When I write for hire, I’m limited in how I can work in faith, but I always keep it clean and optimistic.

Sue: What can we look forward to seeing from you next?

Bitsy: I’m excited to have two new picture books coming out with Bless This Press, an imprint of The Little Press. The first, Best Friends with Grandma, comes out in 2026 in time for early September – Grandparents Day. It’s based on the love I had with my own grandmother, and shows the long-lasting impression a grandparent can have on a child’s heart. A correlating Bible verse is added to each spread. I’ve seen early sketches and I love them!

The next book is Best Friends with Grandpa and it’s with the same house and illustrator and has the same theme. It makes me so happy just thinking about them!

Sue: Please finish these thoughts:

Whenever I have a spare moment… I eat dark chocolate. Heck, I eat dark chocolate even when I don’t have a spare moment!

I love… dark chocolate. (Ooops, was I supposed to say God or church? I hope that was assumed!)

I was hoping you’d ask… Who is Mommy & Me Micro-Moments written for? This book is for every busy mom that says “Tomorrow I am going to spend more quality time with my child” every day since the baby was born, but while well-intentioned, has been too overwhelmed to do it. It’s also for moms looking for ways to sneak prayer into their daily family lives. And it’s for moms who have wanted to start a baby book but at this point realize it’s a lost cause. It’s not! They can start now. It’s never too late to start spending time with your child, and documenting their beautiful, growing lives. I’ve actually had moms tell me they use it with their teens! Grandmothers are another great audience for this book—especially ones that are raising their grandchildren! And it’s for moms that might want to pray with their kids but honestly don’t know how, or how to get started.
